Welcome back to Landsborough State School for a very busy, but exciting Term 4. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new students and their families who have joined us at Landsborough this term. We have lots on the calendar for Term 4, so keep an eye on your emails and our Facebook page for regular updates of our school events.
Monstar Colour Fun Run
Congratulations to our P&C and the Landsborough school community on an enormous effort with our P&C Monstar Colour Fun Run on the last day of last term. The afternoon was filled with fun and laughter with both the students and school community really enjoying this event. This would not be possible without hours of organising and planning from our P&C Committee, as well as support from the staff, students and community with fundraising, supervision and volunteering on the day. As confirmed on school parade last week, the community did an outstanding job again, raising an enormous $29 935.67. What an outstanding effort! Also, a big thank you to Tony Burns from Helping Hands, and staff members - Amy Harris, Tim Kenny and Melissa Tracey for volunteering to be slimed. I think they had as much fun as the kids!
School Leadership Applications
It’s that time of year again when we begin discussing the Leadership Application Process with our Year 5 students. On Wednesday, I outlined the expectations of student leadership and guided students through the application process. Those interested in applying have received a Leadership Application Booklet, which they have been encouraged to review and discuss at home with their parents and caregivers. For students applying for a leadership position in 2026, please note that Leadership Applications are due to the school office by Friday, 7 November. Good luck to all our aspiring leaders in Year 5 – we look forward to seeing your applications!

P&C Fluro Disco and Scholastic Book Fair – Tonight – Friday 17 October!!
We are excited to invite all students to the P&C Fluro School Disco, happening tonight from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the school hall. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to come together, celebrate the end of the year, and enjoy a fun-filled evening with friends.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Please note that this event is for Landsborough students only. While younger siblings who are not yet school-aged are welcome to attend with parent supervision, high school siblings will not be permitted at the event. DJ Candi will be keeping the energy high throughout the night with a great mix of music, and the canteen will be open, serving sausage sizzles, snacks, and cold drinks to keep everyone fuelled and refreshed. Adding to the fun, there will be a Photo Booth operating on the night. Students can take home a keepsake photo with their friends for just $2 each (cash only), with all proceeds supporting our Student Council.
While the students enjoy the disco, parents are welcome to visit the Book Fair, which will be open in The Hive. This is a great chance to browse for books and perhaps pick up some thoughtful Christmas gifts while your child dances the night away.
As a reminder, the area past F Block and the Year 1/2 classrooms is out of bounds, and the main toilets will not be open, so there is no need for students or families to go through the school grounds. Hall toilets will be open.
We look forward to seeing everyone dressed in their brightest Fluro and ready for a night of music, laughter, and community spirit!

Curriculum Snapshots
At the beginning of each term, we include the Curriculum Snapshot in the school newsletter for each year level. This document is a broad snapshot of the learning that will take place in each of the subject areas for this term. If you are wanting more specific information, please speak to your classroom teacher. I encourage families to use this document to discuss with your child/ren what they will be learning, what is the assessment, how are they going, what do they need to improve.
Last week the Yr 5/6 students had the pleasure of listening to and speaking with the author Robin Zorns. Robin presented her book ‘La aventura de Carlitos’ and has generously donated 20 copies to the school. On Friday 24th October the Yr5/6 students will be learning about Spanish cooking.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
PBL Update – The Positive Change Highway
The Positive Change Highway is a strategy used to help students understand that when they run into a “problem” or they feel “stuck” there are ways to turn it all around. We teach students that in order to get from A to B, we may hit a roadblock. The roadblock stops us from moving on and we get stuck in the same place and we keep doing the same behaviours or we are unable to “move on”. This known as the Cycle of Despair. The Positive Change Highway helps students get from where they are, to where you want to be, getting from A to B.
The language the staff use, and questions students might be asked are:
Where are you now? What is the problem?
What can we do to fix the problem? What does it look like when you get there?
What are some of the small problems that could get in the road?
What are some bigger problems that could get in the road?
What strategies can we use to help you get over the Speedbumps and Roadblocks?
What are the next steps you’re going to take on the Positive Change Highway?
The Positive Change Highway visually assists students to recognise when there’s a problem or “speed bump”, choose a plan or strategy to deal with it, apply the plan or strategy and, finally, reflect or persist until there’s a solution or way forward.
The purpose of the Positive Change Highway is to develop a growth mindset and to develop resilience. It helps students understand challenges with more confidence, as it provides visual cues, and structured way of looking at a problem whether it be an academic one or a social one.
Classroom News
2M
This week, 2M investigated how things move as part of our science unit on push and pull forces. They created their own paper spinning helicopters and explored how they move.
First, we made small paper helicopters and dropped them to see how they spun and fell. The children were curious scientists and began wondering...'What would happen if it was bigger?' So next, we created a larger version to compare how it moved.
Some students then wondered what might change if they added two paper clips instead of one. They tested their ideas and compared the speed and spin of each helicopter. Students learned that changing the size or weight changes how fast or slowly it moves.
2M loved exploring how push and pull forces work in real life through hands-on fun and creative thinking!

LSS P&C
The P&C is made up of parents just like you! The primary goal of the P&C is to enhance the educational opportunities for the students at our school. But along with that, it is also a great platform to build lifelong friendships with other like-minded parents, enhance your skill set, become more informed on important school matters and policies, provide parent input and give back to our wonderful school community.
Being a P&C member does not mean that you must attend all meetings. Our meetings are where all decisions are made, therefore attendance is encouraged so you can have your say.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 5 November at 5:30pm in the Hive.
Don’t forget our disco is on tonight 5:30pm – 7:30pm. $5 entry fee at the door. Parent volunteers are still needed to ensure the night runs as smoothly as possible. Sign up below:
