Today, we celebrated World Teachers’ Day. We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and hardworking teachers here at LSS. It has certainly been a challenging year with the introduction of Version 9 in English and Mathematics, as well as the Reading Through the Curriculum initiative. Despite these changes, our teaching staff have shown outstanding resilience, determination, and teamwork, resulting in some amazing data that we can all be proud of as we head towards 2026. To show their appreciation, our P&C provided a Subway lunch platter for our teachers to enjoy on behalf of our school community. Thank you Landsborough State School teachers! We appreciate you!
Day for Daniel
Today, we remember Daniel Morcombe, honouring his life and the enduring legacy he left to protect children across Australia. Day for Daniel is a moment to pause, reflect, and keep his message alive - raising awareness, starting conversations, and helping children learn to Recognise, React and Report unsafe situations. When we wear red on Day for Daniel, we stand together to protect children and together, we can make a difference.
On behalf of the students, we would like to say a huge thank you to the Landsborough State School P&C! What an incredible night we had at the Fluro Disco! A massive thank you to our amazing P&C team for putting so much time, energy, and creativity into making the event such a huge success. The hall looked absolutely fantastic with all the fluro decorations, and DJ Candi kept the energy high with awesome tunes, fun games, and fantastic prizes. The kids had an absolute blast! Thank you to everyone who helped run the canteen, sausage sizzle, photo booth, and the Book Fair, what a line-up! Your hard work and dedication truly brought the night to life. We are so grateful to our P&C, as well as the wonderful parent and staff volunteers, for creating such a fun and memorable event for our us and our families.
Monstar Colour Fun Run Prizes
A big thank you to our amazing P&C and parent volunteers who worked hard this week, sorting and organising a huge number of prizes. Prizes were delivered to students throughout the week. It was a big job, thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of our students and families, there were a lot of prizes to get out! Well done Landsborough State School!
Trick or Treat Event: Landsborough Museum
Tonight, Friday, 31 October, the Landsborough Museum will be hosting their free Trick or Treat event from 4:30pm to 8:00pm. Our wonderful P&C have once again been invited to run the sausage sizzle, and we’d love your support! If you’re available to help out on the night, please reach out to our P&C team. We hope to see you there in your scary costumes!
Spanish Fiesta Project
As part of our Spanish Fiesta Project, last Friday Year 5 and 6 students learnt about Spanish cooking. With Mr Jose as the chef, students enjoyed making (and eating) Spanish burritos. The smell coming from the hall on Friday and wafting through our entire school was very tempting and made our stomachs grumble. Thank goodness there was some left for the staff to enjoy at lunch time. A big thank you to Mr Jose for organising this for our students and also to Mrs Clark, Mrs Petra, Mrs Merola, Miss Melissa and Miss Jemima for supporting Mr Jose and the students to make this a great learning experience.
The fun continued today, when students participated in a Spanish drumming workshop.
School Leadership Applications
Last week, I discussed the Landsborough State School Leadership Application Process with our Year 5 students. I explained the expectations and worked through the application process. Interested year 5 students have been given the application booklet and asked to discuss the process with their parents and caregivers. If you did not get a leadership booklet and would like to apply, your classroom teachers have spare copies. For students applying for a leadership position in 2026, Leadership Applications will be due into the office on Friday 7 November. Good luck Year 5 students!

Class Allocations 2026
As we look ahead to 2026, our teachers will soon begin planning activities for the new school year, including the allocation of students to classes.
Parents who have a specific request regarding the type of teacher they feel would best support their child are invited to put this request in writing.
Please note that requests for specific teachers cannot be considered. Each year, teachers may move to different year levels or take on new roles within the school, either at their own request or to meet broader school planning and management needs. Because of this, class lists are finalised based on the overall balance of student and teacher needs rather than individual teacher assignments.
Instead, we ask that any requests focus on the type of teacher or learning environment that would best support your child’s learning. For example, you might describe the kind of teaching approach, level of support, or classroom structure in which your child learns best.
All class placements are made with the goal of maximising learning opportunities for every student. While we will do our best to accommodate all requests, please understand that not all can be met.
If you wish to make a request for 2026, please email your written request to: sbarr71@eq.edu.au
Deadline: For planning purposes, requests must be received by Friday, 21 November to be taken into consideration.
What You Don’t Always See About Our Educators
Earlier this week, one of our dedicated staff members experienced a fall while helping a younger student find his lunch box, before going to supported eating.
Despite the sudden pain and shock, the staff member's first instinct was not for herself, but for the child she was helping. A nearby older student quickly ran to the office for help, while the younger student stayed close by, deeply concerned for the staff member’s wellbeing.
The younger student refused to leave her side. He sat with her, drawing pictures, offering comfort, and checking on her constantly, determined not to move until he was sure she would be okay. In return, despite being in pain, our staff member continued to reassure him, calmly explaining that she would be fine, and that help was on the way. She gently encouraged him to keep colouring, admiring his drawings and helping him to feel calm and safe.
In that moment, surrounded by caring students and supportive staff, the connection between teacher and child was almost tangible. It was a powerful reminder of what it means to be an educator. How deeply they care, how instinctively they nurture, and how much of themselves they give every single day to the children they work with was so evident in that moment. While this was an unfortunate and painful incident, it also revealed something profoundly beautiful. The compassion, empathy, and human goodness that flows through our school community. It is moments like these that remind us why we are so proud to be educators.
Yours in Education

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Quadrants of Engagement
The Quadrants of Engagement help students understand where they are on their learning journey and what they need to do to be successful. When students become more self-aware, they can take charge of their learning and know when to ask for help or feedback from their teachers.
The two zones above the Line of Opportunity are the Learning Zone and the Mastery Zone.
Mastery Zone: In this zone, students feel confident, calm, and successful. They’re working well, staying positive, and may even be able to help others.
Learning Zone: In this zone, students are curious and committed. They don’t know everything yet, but they’re giving it a good go, asking questions, and trying their best.
The two zones below the Line of Opportunity are the Trying Zone and the Survival Zone.
Trying Zone: Here, students might feel stuck, impatient, or worried. They’re putting in effort but might be thinking, “I just can’t do it.”
Survival Zone: In this zone, students might feel tired, upset, or like giving up. Everything feels difficult and overwhelming.
It’s completely normal for students to move between these quadrants. Some lessons might feel easier than others, and everyone has days when things don’t quite go to plan — sometimes it’s just because they’re tired, distracted, or even hungry!
The Positive Change Highway can help children reflect and find their way forward when they’re in the Trying or Survival Zone. By understanding how they’re feeling and using small steps to move back toward the Learning or Mastery Zones, students learn that every zone is part of the learning journey. With encouragement and persistence, they can keep moving in the right direction and continue to grow.

Look Before You Lock
With hot weather upon us, temperatures inside vehicles can reach dangerous levels quickly.
Look Before You Lock means building a routine of checking, to avoid unintentionally leaving a child in a car. This means checking even if you know your child is not with you.
Stress, exhaustion and distractions can impact short-term memory, leading to devastating consequences when transporting children. Be sure to discuss your Look Before You Lock routine with every person who transports your child. This includes partners, grandparents and friends.
Does your child require medication at school?
If your child needs to take medication at school, please provide the office staff with:
a completed and signed Consent to administer medication form;
the medication in its original container; and
medical authorisation (e.g. the pharmacy label, or a letter from the doctor, or a completed and signed health action plan).
Please ask our administration staff should you have any questions.

LSS P&C
The P&C is made up of parents just like you! The primary goal of the P&C is to enhance the educational opportunities for the students at our school. But along with that, it is also a great platform to build lifelong friendships with other like-minded parents, enhance your skill set, become more informed on important school matters and policies, provide parent input and give back to our wonderful school community.
Being a P&C member does not mean that you must attend all meetings. Our meetings are where all decisions are made, therefore attendance is encouraged so you can have your say.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 5 November at 5:30pm in the Hive.
Thanks to the team at Subway Glenview, we will continue to offer a Subway meal deal EVERY THURSDAY as a healthy school school lunch option for students. The meal deal includes your choice of a 6-inch sub or wrap, a drink (water/juice) and a cookie.
Ordering must be done online via the Flexischools App.
Orders must be placed by 5pm each Wednesday to ensure your order is delivered to your child’s classroom for 1st break on Thursday.
