Understanding the difference between Reboot and Relaunch
It can be confusing for parents and community to stay up to date with all of the different processes and strategies we use at school to support learning. Two of the terms we use at Landsborough State School which are often confused are Reboot and Relaunch. Below is a quick definition of both, to help you understand the difference.
Reboot is our overarching proactive program that supports our PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) systems. It is designed to teach children how to understand their brains and emotions, helping them develop positive self-regulation and self-management skills. Reboot provides the foundational strategies and language we use across the school to support all students in managing themselves effectively and positively.
Relaunch, on the other hand, is a targeted intervention used following the play break, where we address specific, high-level or recurring behaviour choices. Relaunch sessions focus on helping students reflect, reset, and prepare to re-engage with learning. During Relaunch, we utilise Reboot strategies and language to support students in understanding their behaviour and developing more positive responses moving forward.
Monster Colour Fun Run
Our P&C's Colour Explosion Fun Run will be held on Friday 19 September. This is our major school fundraiser for 2025 and is an event not to miss! Each week we will be announcing a new weekly colour run challenge! Challenge 1 and 2 were won by 1S. They thoroughly enjoyed their extra play and Icy Pole prizes. Last week, the highest fundraiser (so far) from each class had the opportunity to sit in VIP seating for our school parade. Our next challenge will be looking for the class who has the highest increase in registrations during week 8. Remember, participation in the School Fun Run doesn't require fundraising, but you do need to register to participate. This is your permission form!
Congratulations to all our P-2 students who participated in the Junior Cross Country last Tuesday. We finally got some beautiful weather to run this event. It was so lovely to see so many parents and caregivers come and support our runners. Everyone tried very hard and our senior leaders did an amazing job of supporting our junior runners. Thank you to Mr Spies and our staff for organising this event. Congratulations to Flinders who won the Cross Country for 2025.
Landsborough Vitamin Bee Show Choir
On Monday, our wonderful Show Choir - Vitamin Bee performed Popular (From Wicked) and Coffee Break (from How to Succeed in Business without really trying) on stage. They did an amazing job entertaining their peers, our staff and community. Congratulations to our students, Dr Coull and Miss Melissa. If you missed it, jump on to our school Facebook page to see the video.

Parent Teacher Interviews – Monday 15 September
Parent / Teacher interviews will be held this term on the afternoon of Monday 15 September. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their class teacher. Attendance at these meetings also signals to your child that you value their education and how they are progressing. Booking information was emailed out to parents last week.
Student Free Day
Just a reminder this that Friday 5 September 2025 is a Student Free Day. Our school, including the Administration offices will also be closed on this day.
Happy Father's Day
On behalf of our entire community, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our P&C for running such a wonderful Father’s Day Stall this week. Your hard work and dedication have brought so much joy to so many families, and we truly appreciate all the thoughtful gifts you have provided. It’s so wonderful to see our community come together. Special thanks also to our student leaders for your help at the stall and for assisting each student to pick the most appropriate gifts.
On Sunday, we honour all the positive male role models who are helping to shape a brighter future for boys and young men everywhere. A special shout-out to the incredible fathers and father figures in our community—we appreciate all that you do, today and every day. Happy Father's Day!

Teacher & Principal Visits
Landsborough State School was delighted to recently welcome three teachers and members of the leadership team from Jones Hill State School. Their visit focused on observing how we teach phonics and reading at LSS. They were impressed by how confidently our students’ followed routines and met classroom expectations. Next week, we will host ten principals from the Lockyer Valley area. They, too, will be visiting classrooms to see the high-quality teaching and learning taking place at our school.
Fun Phonic Facts
c, k, ck, q, x, ch-they all make the same sound, so how do you know when to use the correct spelling pattern??
Use ck at the end of a syllable with a short vowel (e.g. duck, rock, clock)
ck is never used to start a word
The /c/ sound at the beginning of the syllable is represented by a ‘c’ when the next letter is a, o, u, r, l (e.g. cat, cot, cut, crab, clap)
Chose ‘k’ when the following letter is an i or e (e.g. kiss, kept, skip)
At the end of a multisyllabic word the ‘k’ is dropped (music, electric) or when the next letter is a consonant (e.g. act, picnic)
Star Lab Incursion
Last week students had a fantastic time in the Cosmodome. Preps learnt about ‘What is weather’ and the various types of weather. Yr 1 students experienced a simulation of sunrise, sunset, day and night to see stars, planets, the Moon and constellations. Yr 2 students took a virtual trip through the solar system, taking off and landing on different planets. Yr 3 looked at the appearance of the Moon and learnt about measuring shadows using a sundial. Yr 4 had a story told by an astronaut to his grandchildren whilst observing the Earth from the Moon. Yr 5 focused on Earth’s place in space, our solar system, planet orbits, composition, relative sizes & distances, space exploration and technology while Yr 6 considered how geological and extreme weather conditions can affect Earth’s surface.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
At school, we learn about our three brains using the Reboot approach. This helps children understand their feelings, behaviours and how they can make positive choices.
Smart Brain: This is our learning and problem-solving brain. It helps us stay calm, think clearly, make good choices and get along with others.
Emotional Brain: This is our feelings brain. It reacts quickly to emotions and can sometimes take over when we feel upset, excited or frustrated.
Wild Brain: This is our safety brain. When we feel scared, angry or unsafe, this brain takes charge and tells our body to fight, run or freeze.
Children learn that all three brains are important, but they work best when the smart brain is in charge. Using Reboot strategies like breathing, pausing, and naming feelings, we can move from the Wild or Emotional Brain back to the Smart Brain.
At home, you might like to use the same language. By working together with a shared understanding of the three brains, we can support children to feel safe, calm and ready to learn.

Introducing our New Inclusion Teacher, Tim Kenny
Dear Parents and Carers
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Tim Kenny and I’m delighted to introduce myself as the new Inclusion Teacher at Landsborough State School, concentrating upon years 4, 5 and 6. I am stepping into this role while Lynette Leighton is on maternity leave, and I look forward to continuing the wonderful work she has done with our students, staff, and families.
I bring with me a passion for inclusive education and a strong background in both Special and Mainstream education both in the UK and Australia. Over the last 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and leading in a variety of educational settings – from primary to high school – and I am deeply committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive and feel valued.
At the heart of my approach is a belief in communication and collaboration – with students, teachers, families, and the wider school community. I’m keen to connect with you, understand your child’s unique strengths and needs, and work together to create the best possible learning environment for them.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or simply want to say hello. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting your children as part of this vibrant and caring school community.
Warm regards, Tim Kenny

LSS P&C
The P&C is made up of parents just like you! The primary goal of the P&C is to enhance the educational opportunities for the students at our school. But along with that, it is also a great platform to build lifelong friendships with other like-minded parents, enhance your skill set, become more informed on important school matters and policies, provide parent input and give back to our wonderful school community.

We are looking for the biggest smiles we have ever seen from our students. All our students will become running rainbows of happiness! Please volunteer your time to assist us to create a memorable event for our staff and students (click on link below to sign up to volunteer).
