At Landsborough State School, we are committed to using effective communication processes and techniques that support a positive and respectful social learning environment.
We believe community building is a shared responsibility. As such, we encourage all members of our school community to reflect our school values and communication protocols when sharing and receiving information.

Upcoming Carnivals
We have our athletics carnivals coming up next week! An email was sent out on Tuesday with detailed information regarding our Athletics Carnivals. This year, we will be running two separate events. We will hold a Prep-Yr 2 Athletics Carnival on our school oval on Monday 16 June, followed by a Yr 3-6 Athletics Carnival on Thursday 19 June at Skippy Park. Our P&C will again, be supporting our students by providing the buses to transport our students to Skippy Park and back. It is always great to have the support of our parents and families on these days. Please feel free to come along, enjoy the day and cheer on our students.
Academic Excellence Parade – Semester 1 2025
At the end of this semester, we will recognise and celebrate the outstanding academic achievements of Landsborough students during a special Academic Excellence Ceremony. As our end of term schedule is very full, we will be holding this special ceremony early in Term 3, on Wednesday 23 July. Parents and community are invited to come along and support the achievement of our students.
Taking Photos and Videos at School Events
We understand that parents and carers enjoy capturing special moments of their children at school, whether it’s a performance, an award presentation, sporting event or a school parade. These moments are important, and we love seeing families celebrate them.
However, we ask all families to be mindful of privacy and safety considerations when taking photos or videos at school events.
Some families have personal, legal, or safety reasons for not wanting images of their children shared publicly or online. To respect everyone’s privacy:
Please only photograph or film your own child/ren during school events and parades.
Do not post images or videos of other students on social media or other public platforms without explicit permission from their families.
By following these guidelines, we help ensure that all families feel safe and respected at our school events. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Interschool Sport
Over the past two Fridays, our Year 5/6 soccer teams proudly represented our school at the Glasshouse Interschool Soccer Competition.
Both students and teachers reported what fantastic days they were, with students showing great determination, teamwork, and school spirit throughout each match. Our players competed hard, demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, and most importantly, had fun.
We are proud of how they conducted themselves both on and off the field. Well done to all involved!
Prep 2026 Open Days
We have released the dates for our Prep 2026 Open Days. If you have a child starting Prep next year, please take note of the dates below.
Leave
I will be on leave in for the remainder of this term. Ms Sam Burchall, Deputy Principal of Baringa SHS, will be Acting Principal during by absence. Sam is a very experienced Deputy Principal and is very excited about the opportunity to learn and lead Landsborough State School for a few weeks. I have no doubt, the students, staff and community will make her feel welcomed. Wishing all LSS families a safe and relaxing Winter school holiday break. I look forward to seeing you all when I return.

Reading at Landsborough SS
Reading is one of the most researched aspects of learning. A vast body of contemporary cognitive research provides clear direction on the most effective way to teach reading. Reading is the process of decoding and making meaning from text. Unlike speaking and listening, reading is not a naturally developing skill — all students need to be explicitly taught to read. At Landsborough State School phonics is taught explicitly every day from Prep all the way through to Year Six. When students repeatedly decode words using letter-sound relationships, the words are committed to long-term memory through the process of orthographic mapping. This process supports automaticity and fluent reading. At the end of each term student’s phonic knowledge is assessed, this information is then used to plan for new phonic learning the following term. If you would like to know more about your child’s phonic knowledge and their ability to decode words, please speak to your child’s teacher.
Under 8’s Day
This day is always a day to look forward to in our calendar for the P-2 students. This year’s theme was ‘Unleashing Scientific thinking through play’. Students were able to get messy with fizzy colours, slime, milk experiments & many more hands on activities led by our amazing teachers. This year we had a Wildlife HQ bring along some reptiles for students to touch and learn about, and both AFL & NRL taking the students through some skills, The Dance Academy showing us some moves, and Nicole from Matt Fiddes Martial Arts showed us how to chop wood with our bare hands! The Beerwah Auxiliary Fire Fighters and Landsborough Rural Fire Fighters brought their big red and yellow trucks, while Qld Surf Life Saving brought along their jet ski. Everyone had an amazing morning. Thank you to all those who came along and enjoyed the morning with us.
Hearing Testing for Prep Students
Our school is offering the opportunity for Prep children to participate in Hear and Say’s Hear to Learn – School Hearing Screening program, to help ensure they’re hearing as well as they can and maximising their learning potential.
This service is delivered by Hear and Say’s specialist paediatric hearing screeners, at school. Your child’s screening will take place on Monday, 23 June 2025
The screen includes the following three assessments in both ears:
Examination of the ear canal and ear drum
Testing of middle ear function
Hearing screening under headphones
The screen takes no more than 10 minutes per student and will be adapted according to your child’s responses.
Within two weeks of screening, a summary of results will be emailed to you. If necessary, this will include recommendations for further comprehensive diagnostic testing at Hear and Say, or a referral to a general practitioner for medical advice. Hear and Say may also contact you to follow up on your child’s results.
Please click on this link https://hearandsay.snapforms.com.au/form/2025-school-hearing-screening-consent-and-results-formto complete the 2025 School Screening Parent Consent Form. Please note, we will not accept any online consent forms completed after Sunday, 15 June 2025. This form also gives permission for your school to have a copy of your child’s results, which could be beneficial for your child’s education.
Please reach out to our team via hearingscreening@hearandsay.com.au or phone if you have any questions about your child’s screening results, or at any time if you have concerns about your child’s hearing.

The P&C is made up of parents just like you! The primary goal of the P&C is to enhance the educational opportunities for the students at our school. But along with that, it is also a great platform to build lifelong friendships with other like-minded parents, enhance your skill set, become more informed on important school matters and policies, provide parent input and give back to our wonderful school community.
Being a P&C member does not mean that you must attend all meetings. Our meetings are where all decisions are made, therefore attendance is encouraged so you can have your say.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 30 July at 5:30pm in the Hive.
Landsborough State School uniforms are available to purchase from The School Locker Maroochydore. This store is open 7 days a week for convenient shopping. You can also make purchases online and have the items home delivered!
