Last Friday 23 May was P&C Day! On behalf of our whole school community, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our school's Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association. Their dedication, time, and tireless efforts make a meaningful difference to our school community. Whether it's organising events, supporting fundraising, or enhancing our students' learning experiences, their volunteer work does not go unnoticed. I hope you took the chance to listen to our wonderful executive team messages on the P&C Facebook page. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do to support our beautiful school. Thank you for being such an important part of our school!
Year 5/6 Camp – Noosa North Shore
This week, our Year 5/6 students and staff travelled to Noosa North Shore for the Senior Leadership Camp. Over three action-packed days, students embraced opportunities to build teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills. The camp challenged them to step outside their comfort zones, overcome adversity, and develop greater resilience, independence, and self-management, all while having loads of fun! It was a privilege to witness our students grow through these experiences and celebrate their achievements together. Camps like this aren’t possible without a strong support network. A heartfelt thank you to our parent community for backing the camp, our P&C for their generous donation covering the buses, and our local state member, Mrs Kendal Morton MP, for contributing $500 towards camp costs. Huge thanks also to Mrs Weir for organising the camp, to all our dedicated staff who attended, and to our administration team for managing payments and permission forms. Finally, a big congratulations to our students for stepping up to every challenge and giving their all. What a fantastic effort. Great job, Landsborough!

Upcoming Carnivals
We have several sporting carnivals coming up towards the end of this term. Our P-2 Cross Country, which was rained out last term, has been rescheduled for Monday 2June. We also have our Athletics Carnivals coming up. This year, we will be running two separate Athletics Carnivals. We will hold a P-2 Athletics Carnival on our school oval on Monday 16 June, followed by a 3-6 Athletics Carnival on Thursday 19 June at Skippy Park. Our P&C will again, be supporting our students by providing the buses to transport our students to Skippy Park and back. It is always great to have the support of our parents and families on these days. Please feel free to come along, enjoy the day and cheer on our students.
Minimum Age Requirement for Social Media Accounts and Popular Games (Fortnite)
Parents and carers play a key role in guiding their children’s online encounters and ensuring they are protected from online risks and harmful content. With children spending more time online for learning, it’s a good time as a parent to review what your child is accessing during their online time. Each social media site and app has its own criteria for minimum age requirements. Popular apps and games such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and Fortnite require a user to be at least 13 years of age to create an account or to play. The age requirements are in place to protect our children and support positive social and personal development in our children’s’ formative years. Therefore, primary school age children should not have access to these applications. For more information, parents can access the eSafety Commissioner’s advice on how to navigate key online milestones is available at
School road safety is a matter that requires whole community awareness and commitment. Landsborough State School is lucky to have School Crossing Supervisors who are able to ensure that students and families cross the road safely before and after school. We are also very appreciative to the Sunshine Coast Council for our recent Crossing Upgrade on Gympie Street North. Please review these important points with your children about how to use the crossing safely:
Stop behind the solid yellow line on the footpath
Wait for the Crossing Supervisor to find a break in the traffic, walk to the centre of the road and ensure that the vehicles are coming to a stop.
Wait for the Crossing Supervisor to blow their whistles twice (2). This is the signal that it is safe to cross the road.
Move safely across the crossing. This includes walking skateboards, scooters, bikes and not bouncing balls. Do not stop on the crossing to talk to others.
The Crossing Supervisor will remain on the crossing until all pedestrians make it safely to the other side of the road.
If there is an emergency, the Crossing Supervisor will blow the whistle sharply once (1). Stop and listen to their instructions and follow it immediately.
We request parents and community are also vigilant when driving, following designated school speed limits and parking only in designated parking areas to ensure our community is safe before and after school.

Smart Energy Academy
On Monday 19th May P-6 students attended the Smart Energy academy show. This performance was filled with exciting and comedic stories on the topics of energy, resources and conservation.
We learnt all about:
What is energy and electricity
What are energy resources
How energy is wasted
How you can save energy
As part of the show, students received a home energy student survey to complete. The survey is designed to measure the positive changes students’, and their families have made in their energy saving knowledge and behaviour. It encourages actions such as turning off lights, reducing appliance usage, and adopting energy-efficient practices.
By returning your class completed surveys to the Smart Energy Academy, we can work together to save 1million kWh of energy!
The best part is that you can also be in the draw to win prizes!
For every 50 surveys returned to LSS, we receive $100.
One family will win $500, then our school goes in the draw to win $500, $1000 and $2000 prizes.
Please return these to your classroom teachers ASAP!
Prep Hearing Test
Hear & Say-Hear to Learn facilitators will be conducting hearing tests for the preps on Monday 23 June (last week of term). Prep parents please ensure you complete the online consent form; no paper copies will be accepted. These tests are important to ensure that your child does not have any hearing issues that could impact their learning, all costs are covered by the school.
Excursions
This term students have been learning about report writing and, for part of their English assessment, will write a report. To support and enhance this learning Prep visited White Ridge Farm, Year 1 learnt how to make butter at Bankfoot House, Year 2 were engaged with Life Cycles at Australia Zoo, and Year 4 survived a windy ferry crossing to St Helena’s Island. Their behaviour on these excursions was exemplary and I know everyone had an amazing time. I’m looking forward to reading their reports at the end of the term.

Road Safety Message – Department of Transport & Main Roads
Parking Safely at School
Parking at school can often be a stressful experience for parents / carers and can result in poor parking behaviour. This includes parking illegally. Illegal parking is when a driver parks and leaves their car in a:
no stopping zone
on a yellow 'no stopping' line
on a footpath
in a bus zone
a disability park without a permit
on a painted island, dividing strip or nature strip / grass verge
Up to a quarter of all road-related incidents occur around school pick-up time, mainly by parents who are distracted or in a hurry. To keep our community safe, please ensure you read the School Parking Fact Sheet below.
Holiday HQ is making it's way to us already with only around 4 weeks of term left. Our bookings are already open, so make sure to plan ahead.
