ANZAC Day at Landsborough SS – A Proud Community Moment
As schools, we play a vital role in ensuring the tradition of ANZAC Day is not only maintained but continues to grow stronger within our community. Last week was a shining example of that commitment in action. I would like to thank Mrs Weir for organising a special ANZAC Day Service last Thursday. I would also like to acknowledge Mr Mark for doing a fantastic job in ensuring a safe environment for students to observe the Light Horse display in the gully, and of course Mrs Shepherdson and her father Mr Chapman for giving up their time to organise this incredible display for our students. It was also a privilege to have Mr Reece Osborne from the Glasshouse-Landsborough RSL speak to us about what ANZAC Day means to him. Their combined efforts created a truly meaningful and respectful event for our students, staff, and guests.
Our School Captains showed great leadership and maturity in guiding our school service. They spoke with pride and respect, doing an outstanding job. We are very grateful to our dedicated staff who supported the service in so many ways. From preparing class wreaths (which were later laid again at the community service) to providing active supervision and encouraging respectful student behaviour throughout. The care and effort put into the wreaths was obvious, and students took great pride in laying them during both services.
We were also very proud of the large number of students and staff who braved the weather and early morning alarm to attend the community dawn service. Landsborough SS was extremely well represented, and your presence helped show just how committed our school community is, in playing our part in the broader community. Thank you for giving up your time and energy to support such an important service. Your efforts ensured that Landsborough SS continues to fulfil its vital role as a key pillar of our community during moments that matter most.
Amazing job, Landsborough!
Go Green for Earth Day
Our student council met last term and have been working on an initiative to support recycling at Landsborough State School. Thank you to our Student Council for working hard to organise this and thank you to all of our participants!

Guidance Officer Appreciation Week
This week, we celebrate Guidance Officer Appreciation Week. This is a time to recognise the invaluable role Guidance Officers play in supporting students and school communities across Queensland. Here at Landsborough State School, we are incredibly fortunate to have one of the best – Mr Andrew Graham. We would like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution Mr Graham makes to our school. Through his work in counselling, offering advice, and providing leadership across education, behaviour, personal and social development, family matters, mental health, and overall wellbeing. He has become a pillar of support for both our students and staff. Mr Graham’s knowledge, experience, and above all, his genuine empathy, are deeply treasured by our entire school community.
Thank you Mr Graham!

Prep Vision Screening
The Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program is coming to our school, on Monday 12th May, 2025.

As the teaching of reading has moved towards a focus on phonics, home reading will also begin to look different. Students must first learn the sound & the letters that represent the sounds, they then begin to use the sound in words. When they’re fluent in decoding the words, students then move to decoding a sentence and finally a complete piece of text such as a book as they begin to build reading stamina and fluency. This means that what students bring home is not always a book as it depends on the student’s stage of learning. They may bring home a word list, sentence strips or a book. All home reading will be based on what the student already knows and their focus will be on their reading stamina and prosody/reading rate. If you have any concerns please speak to your classroom teacher or myself.

Outside School Hours Care Community Survey
We are required to send an invitation to Outside School Hours Care Service providers (OSHC), giving them an opportunity to apply to operate the service at Landsborough State School. To ensure an OSHC service that best accommodates the community's needs, the school is seeking feedback from families about their requirements for the OSHC service.
We ask that you respond to a short survey so that we can accurately determine the service needs of our school community. This survey will take approximately 2 minutes to complete. Note: Survey Closes on Tuesday 6th May.
To enable effective communication, Landsborough State School deploys several methods of communication to ensure students, parents, carers and the community can access and receive the latest information available to them.

LSS P&C
The P&C is made up of parents just like you! The primary goal of the P&C is to enhance the educational opportunities for the students at our school. But along with that, it is also a great platform to build lifelong friendships with other like-minded parents, enhance your skill set, become more informed on important school matters and policies, provide parent input and give back to our wonderful school community.
Being a P&C member does not mean that you must attend all meetings. Our meetings are where all decisions are made, therefore attendance is encouraged so you can have your say.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 28 May at 5:30pm in the Hive.
With Mother's Day just around the corner, our P&C are gearing up for their annual Mother's Day Stall!
They have a large selection of high-quality gifts, ranging in price from $1 up to $10. Our popular 'grab n go' bags will also be on offer for those in a hurry.
We are seeking volunteers to assist us with set up, selling, and pack up. Sign up now using the link below. It would be great to have some Dad helpers too! Thank you for your support
When coming to cast your vote, make sure you stop by the canteen and grab a tasty treat. Cash or card accepted on the day.
Let's come together and make it a great day for our school!
VACANT POSITIONS
Whilst all Executive Positions for 2025 have been filled, there are still a couple of vacanies on the committee. Our growing school needs a full P&C committee to continue supporting the school. The task is too big for just a few people. Please consider taking on one if these vacant roles:
Grants Officer
Develops contacts and applies for relevant grants. The role requires liaising with the school as applications depend on the preferences and commitment of the school.
Assistant Treasurer
Assists the Treasurer with their role. After 5 years as P&C Treasurer, this will be Rebecca’s last year in the role, as her daughter is now in year 6. We are looking for someone who may be interested in taking on the Treasurer role in 2026. Being Assistant Treasurer will give you a chance to ‘learn the ropes’ from Rebecca this year whilst she is in the Treasurer position.
If you would like to get involved or for further information, please email the P&C at landsboroughpandc@outlook.com. Full training would be provided.
Uniforms - The School Locker
Landsborough State School uniforms are available to purchase from The School Locker Maroochydore. This store is open 7 days a week for convenient shopping. You can also make purchases online and have the items home delivered!
Book Club
Term 2 Book Club catalogues have arrived. Look out for your copy of Issue 3 coming home with students. It's packed with hundreds of books from just $3 to help you on your child's reading journey. Orders are due by Thursday 8th May.

Local Family Fun ‘Weeds & Waterways’ Day
Mooloolah River Landcare would like to invite students and their families to their upcoming Weeds and Waterways community morning at the Landsborough Sports Complex on Sat the 24th of May form 9am-12pm. (see attached poster)
They will be raising awareness about the fact that Landsborough is in a drinking water catchment, what that means and how we can all contribute to safeguarding this important resource.
Family fun activities will include looking at samples of water from the Creek (which runs alongside the sports ground) to see what waterbugs are there and what they can tell us about the health of the waterways. They will also have a lot of great information and hands-on activities to learn about weeds and how we can protect our waterways from them...
Plus there will be a free sausage sizzle and other great give-aways!
