I would like to welcome our students, staff, parents and community back for another great year at Landsborough State School. I would also like to welcome our new families to our beautiful school community. We have had a great start to the 2025 school year, with students very quickly adjusting to their new classroom routines, making new friends and getting straight into learning. It has been wonderful to see our school continue to grow over the past two years, allowing us to continue our two class per year level structure. This structure provides opportunities for teachers to work with their teaching partner to share ideas in teaching and planning and confirm next steps in learning and achievements through moderation. This will be very beneficial for our staff as they work to implement the new Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum in English and Mathematics. We are looking forward to a terrific year at Landsborough State School.
Welcome New Staff
I would like to formally welcome the following new or returning staff members to Landsborough State School for the 2025 school year:
Tracey Legge – Teaching Prep L
Amy Harris – Teaching Year 3H
Melissa Dougherty – Support Teacher Year 3
Lynette Leighton – Support Teacher Year 4-6
We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic staff at Landsborough and I have no doubt that the students, staff and community have made our new staff feel very welcomed. If you would like to find out more about our new staff members, please view our Facebook page for staff profiles.
Student Leadership Investiture
Our Student Leaders’ Investiture Ceremony will take place as part of our Week 3 School Parade on Monday 10 February at 1:45pm. This special event will be held in our school hall. Parents and Caregivers of our Student Leaders and Semester 1 Class Captains should have received an invitation to attend this event this week. We hope to see you there to acknowledge and celebrate our young leaders.
Meet the Teacher Afternoon
This year, our class teachers will be hosting a Meet the Teacher Afternoon. Classes will be timetable at different times over the next two weeks, to provide parents with the opportunity to meet each child’s class teacher, go through class routines and expectations and ask any questions they may have. Below is a snapshot of the timetable. We hope you can make it along to meet your child’s teacher/s.
Uniform Expectations
It is an expectation that all Landsborough students wear full school uniform every day. Our uniform includes our school polo shirt, wide brimmed hat (preferably school hat), plain black school shorts or skorts, plain white or plain black socks and all black shoes. During the winter months, students are expected to wear either the school jumper, or a plain black jumper (no logos). Please ensure that your child wears the correct uniform to school, or reach out to us if you need any assistance with providing the correct uniform for your child/ren.
Student Personal Devices – Phones Away for the Day Policy
Queensland state schools are committed to reducing the distraction of mobile devices to provide optimal learning environments for all students.
The policy which was introduced in 2024 for Queensland state school relates to mobile devices include mobile phones, wearables such as smartwatches, handheld devices and other emerging technologies which have the ability to connect to telecommunication networks/internet and/or take digital photos/videos.
All state school students must keep mobile phones and devices switched off and ‘away for the day’ during school hours.
To ensure that we comply with this policy, we request that parents and caregivers:
support their child to meet expectations of the school's local policy approach for student use of mobile devices, as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct
support implementation of the local policy approach by using the school’s preferred communication channels to contact their child during school hours
work with the school to resolve issues regarding student compliance with the school's local policy approach.
Students who bring mobile devices to school, must sign them in at the start of the day in the office and sign them out at the end of the day from the office. Thank you for your support with this.
Morning Arrival Time
Students are able to arrive at school from 8am each morning. Students who need to be at school prior to 8am must access the before school care service – Helping Hands. Years 3-6 students meet in the undercover area in F Block and remain there until the 8:25am. At this time, I will then make morning announcements. P-2 students meet in the Hall from 8am and remain there until 8:25am. Mrs Clark will then make morning announcements. Class teachers will pick students up from these areas at 8:30am. Students should not be waiting in or near the classrooms in the morning as teachers are busy preparing for resources for learning. Thank you for your support with this.
Student Behaviour in 2025
During lunch breaks and when visiting classrooms, I have been very impressed with overall student behaviour so far this year. It is clear that our high expectations at Landsborough State School for student behaviour is being met in both the classroom and playground. This is important, as every student who attends our school has the right to learn in a safe and supportive learning environment. We continue to promote our 4 Bee’s:
We are safe
We are respectful
We are responsible
We are active learner
These expectations form an effective framework to review our everyday actions. I encourage all parents to continue to reinforce these school expectations with your child/children.
Attendance is the Key to Learning
Research shows that students who have good attendance are more likely to achieve high results at school. If students do not attend regularly or have a pattern of arriving late/leaving early, they are miss valuable curriculum content being taught. Being at school every day really does count, with one day absent each week quickly adding up to two months of missed lessons in a year. Currently our school’s overall attendance percentage is above 95% so far. Although this is a great start, we would like to see this percentage remain this high throughout our first semester. Great job Landsborough!
Yours in Education Selina Barry Principal
Head of Department – Curriculum
Welcome Back
There’s been an amazing buzz of excitement around the school as students settle into their new classes. I hope everyone had a great break and spent time with family and friends over Christmas. 2025 brings some changes in the curriculum, this year the changes are in Mathematics and English. We will be holding parent information sessions throughout the year as well as including information in newsletters and on Facebook to support and inform parents of the updates.
Snapshots
At the beginning of each term, we include the Curriculum Snapshot in the school newsletter for each year level. This document is a snapshot of the learning that will take place in each of the subject areas for this term. I encourage families to use this document to discuss with your child/ren what they will be learning.
It’s wonderful to see everyone following the school’s expectations of waiting under A block if arriving before 8:00am. If you arrive after 8:00 am Prep-Yr 2 head straight to the hall and Yr 3-6 wait under F block with their school bags where they will supervised by staff. This week is the first week the Prep students have met in the hall and they are doing a fantastic job.
Parent Information Session
Mark the date. I will be holding our first parent information session on Thursday 6th March, 8:45-10:15 am. More information will be in our next Newsletter as well as on our Facebook page.

What a way to celebrate our first week back at school for 2025! Here is this year’s first group of Landsborough Legends. Unfortunately, due to a power outage, we had to delay the presentation of these Landsborough Legend awards until Monday 10th February. Our staff had so many lovely things to say about these fabulous students. Well done everyone!
NOTE: If your child is away on the day they are to receive their Landsborough Legend certificate on parade, they will receive their certificate from their classroom teacher.
